Espiritu de Uriangato
A la chica,
Tan bella como Uriangato,
Yo se, porque veia ella,
The smitten who, at her feet,
Can't help but themselves to throw,
Just to be cast in the coolness of her shadow...
You are that beautiful,
Such that the haphephobic overcomes his fear,
Only so your touch he can feel,
Too, the sensation of having you near;
Your light is the warmth people seek from the cold,
The reassuring voice friends long to hear.
Y eres inteligente,
Trabajadora,
Byproduct of a people
Whose creed is "Si se puede"—
No sabes vuestro tiempo esta ahora?
The land is yours for as far as the eye can see—
Stake out your territory now, conquistadora!
For twenty-two years you've been alive,
And I'm sure in that time you've been through,
Things that broke your heart if not thereupon
Morbid etchings writhed...
Things that strengthened your resolve to survive,
All of which made for a stronger you;
Through all things, good and bad, may you continue to thrive,
May every dream you dream come true.
Feliz cumpleanos,
Una vez mas, a ti,
El espiritu de Uriangato,
Vigilante,
Someone's secret hero,
You've stood strong like a lighthouse
Keeps watch over the sea;
And despite the ebb and flow,
Thereof, yourself you always manage to buoy.

Paradise

The rainfall,
It's soon to begin,
Would you be at my beck and call,
If, like rain, I could sink beneath your skin?
Alone on this here island,
The trees swaying frantically,
Say you'll hold my hand,
As we stroll where the beach meets the sea—
Whatever you want to do, I'm sure, together, we can,
If you forsake that which inhibits & let your spirit linger free.
It's gotten dark,
The wind, knifing with saber's edge,
In the midst of the shadows that lurk,
To love and protect you is my eternal pledge.
Through the break, a faint light gleams upon your face,
We stop walking; you turn to me and say,
"From here to the distance, let us race,"
As though some voiceless decree stemmed from that very ray—
Surely from here to wherever your hale bounty I'll chase;
Lead me to your love, Dear, show me the way...
Rain has begun to cascade,
Whatever light that was,
Has further begun to fade,
While we, alow, celebrate simply because.
Again we stop, drenched, barefooted in the sand,
Looking at each other, we know,
The grains on the argentiferous shore, even,
Won't equate to the number of miles we ran,
On the crazy world below,
As, once more, we take each other's hand,
And I thumb a rain bead from your brow.
Come rain or shine, no matter where we go,
We'll always have shelter in each other's shadow...
You're beautiful in the mist,
Body glistening like the sun sparkles upon the bluest ocean—
Every pore begging for my kiss,
My only quandary not knowing where to begin,
It's hard to believe...
My star fell from the sky before I was able to make a wish,
And now I sing to her—to you my paean.
The rainfall,
It's about to end,
I will be at your beck and call,
For, like rain, I've sunken beneath your skin.
Though the storm is over,
The S.O.S. sent,
Let the helicopters above us hover,
As for my repeat transgressions I continuously repent...
(Let's stay in Paradise...forever.)

For You
Called to be special,
God Himself thought to send from halted state,
One, beautiful angel,
Thus you descended the staircase…leading to Heaven’s gate.
It was God’s hand, not celestial debris,
That placed those dimples upon your angelic face,
Contrary to what many believed,
To happen during your conquest of time and space,
Long before we were set to receive,
The bounty that befell us from that mystical place.
You’re still an angel,
Even without wings or halo,
Or any other cachet of the celestial,
For you need neither to fly or glow;
When you move, you defy Earth’s gravitational pull,
Your radiance that of white, glistening snow.
Like any good thing,
You came to me unexpectedly,
The undeserved blessing,
God bequeaths to the unworthy,
It’s unbelievable how much change one can bring,
A divine abrogation of all affliction and misery—
Such is what you’ve become to me…
You transcend that place...thaumaturgic as a spell,
And the fact you're here now has no bearing—
None whatsoever...on your God-given potential;
In this life you'll shatter many a glass ceiling,
As you ascend the moral plane back to a Cielo,
Past the conformities of conventional thinking—
Oh, the places you'll go!
These words I’ve sought to eschew,
For their power is beyond measure,
And, depending on whose lips they pass through,
Are ofttimes subject to censure,
But I unabashedly say that…I love you—
I love you deeply, all the way to my heart's core.
Moreover, now that it’s been said,
Know, too, I love you as a friend,
Both loves are as though inbred;
Neither with beginning nor end,
In light of all things, may we always have amistad,
And room to grow…should, to the latter, we choose to append.
Te amo, una vez mas...

Worlds Apart
I, worlds apart,
Who perambulates this pied-à-terre,
Am at night stilled when I see that distant planet—your heart,
And I know only your love can take me there…
Once upon I time…I didn’t know you to exist;
I thought I was living life, but must’ve been doped off some hallucinogen,
Until my nerves found succor from the seeping of your mist,
The girl through whom the evanescent finds life again,
The sight of whom spurs the Laodicean from his perch of listlessness,
Possibly saving him from a harrowing end,
You—you are the reason...for my being so assiduous,
For I want desperately our story to not be one of fiction.
I, worlds apart,
Who perambulates this pied-à-terre,
Refuse to believe—no, I simply cannot—
That you just don’t, nor could ever grow to care.
Time fleeted with no respite,
Leaving you with little to no memories of me,
Like trying to recall a dream from the previous night;
It’s hard to fetch that which hasn’t availed itself to Memory—
Honestly, Gen, you forgetting me is a sore fright
And I pray every day for that not to become a reality.
You, angel afar,
Alive with such effulgence,
To reach you, estoy listo embarcar;
I’d streak across a thousand galaxies, leaving in its tracks my imprints.
For far too long...I’ve been kept at dreams’ reach of you,
Bound by the perimeter of this fantastical realm…
While I, in my frustration, brood and stew,
Thinking how I can wrest Fate of her place at my ship’s helm—
Would I have to stage History’s greatest coup?
Or do I have to depend upon that which is more seldom:
You coming full circle—is that something you’d be willing to do?
Could you save me from spending the rest of my life in these doldrums?
Unwritten is the story of you and me,
But I’ve seen the cast, the plot—
The tale of one man’s emotional plea,
To the woman he’d someday hope to besot,
In the end, though, Love would claim yet another victory—
In contrast to past stories, a more favorable dénoument.
Alive to me, still, is our story yet to be written,
Yet to be pantomimed on the world’s stage…
However, I can’t force the ink from this here pen,
If you don’t want your name beside mine upon this blank page.
At the end of each day, however, it’s about what you want;
I alone can’t will myself to your glory,
Nor would it behoove me to continually haunt,
With shades only apparently I can see…
Maybe it’s not you I’m destined to gallant—
But I still believe in the place…renown for thaumaturgy;
Still I play sycophant,
To He whom performed His first miracle at the wedding in Galilee,
I know when you first said no you were adamant,
And even if you are, still, whenever you’re ready...
God will be in the midst if and when we come together and finally agree.
I, worlds apart,
Who perambulates this pied-à-terre,
Am at night stilled by that distant planet—your heart,
And I’m hopeful that, someday, your love…will take me there.
